This sharpener gets a solid review from America's Test Kitchen, and on that strength I bought it, getting away from a traditional sharpening stone. It does sharpen knives very well and very quickly, but I have a hard time controlling the knife as it goes through. I think if I had more practice, I'd do a better job. I'm not convinced that a hand sharpening stone, maybe diamond, wouldn't do a better job, considering that I don't have time to practice with this one.

This sharpener did not do a good or even semi-good job on the knives I tried it on. Removed too much metal and did not leave a good edge. It sounded really good but in practice was not. I'm sticking to my sharpening steel.

I used this sharpener for a year already and was not satisfied at all. Recently I bought Presto Pro EverSharp Electric Knife Sharpener which is 3 times cheaper as well as 3 times better.

This is a great machine. Takes a little time but is way better than the back of a can opener. The knives simply fall through tomatoes when they're done. I'm not an expert. . . . but I love this system.
